I have to separate this into favorite films vs favorite performances, because they are not the same thing.Best Crowe Performances:1)The Insider2)ABM3)Romper Stomper4)Gladiator5)Cinderella Man6) 3:10 to Yuma7) LA Confidential8) Proof9) State of Play10) Sum of UsBest Crowe Films:1) The Insider2) LA Confidential3) Master and Commander4) A Beautiful Mind5) Gladiator6) 3:10 to Yuma7) Proof8) State of Play9) Cinderella Man10) Texas (sorry, had to include this because it's one of my favorites)
for me, It's Master & Commander.....roe
BskiHm… first saw him in LA Confidential (“who was that guy?”), then was amazed that he got an Oscar nomination over Al Pacino for The Insider – until I saw the film (he should have won) but Gladiator rang all the bells and began long journey through fandom and beyond………….To pick a favorite is (to be totally trite) like picking a favorite child. A.The entire film is a gem: The Insider, LA Confidential, Master & Commander, Cinderella Man, Gladiator B.I just like what he’s doing in it: Proof of Life, Proof, Sum of Us, Les Miserables, A Good Year, 3:10 to Yuma But you knew a Crowe fan couldn’t give a simple answer, right? He should have had Oscars for both Insider and Gladiator…………………..

The films I find myself watching over and over are M&C, Robin Hood,Proof of Life, State of Play, A Good Year, and No Way Back. There is something about each of those characters, and the way they handle their circumstances, that resonate, sometimes in spite of the overall film quality.Sometimes, his "best" performances are harder to watch: A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, Romper Stomper.Gladiator is one of my least favorites, although I do watch it, just to watch the power of his performance. He certainly deserved that Oscar. Should have won for Insider, ABM, and CM as well.Just me.Ann "Maggie Joiner
He was amazing in Gladiator, he made the film believeable and appealing to both men and women, that's why it keeps coming up as a favourite. It's impossible for me to pick a single favourite film or performance by Russell... Master & Commander, Les Misérables, The Insider, ABM...
Russell's best performance was Jimmy Braddock in Cinderella Man followed by Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, 3:10 to Yuma,Insider, Proof,State of Play, Master and Commander,Les Miserables,Sum of Us,L.A.confidential,. You know this choosing thing is difficult because I firmly believe that ALL parts are given serious consideration by CROWE.Gladiator sets a standard for hero movies, Russell knocked it out of the ballpark on that one.Maximus is an iconic film character, now that is s fact.In CM case why oh why isn't that film shown frequently on cable?
Gladiator Is Still my favorite. with robin hood second!
Kim KrawczakGladiator still is my all time favorite!
While M&C is my fav... I truly think his best performance was John Nash in A Beautiful Mind. I truly had no idea what was going on until the film revealed it. Amazing stuff.
one more note.... Had Cinderella Man come out around Thanksgiving or Christmas instead of at the same time as Million Dollar Baby, it would probably be right up there with Miracle on 34th Street... Oh well. Timing can be everything!
Performances I watch most often: State of Play, Robin Hood, A Good Year, 3:10 to Yuma, Gladiator, The Next Three DaysPerformances so good they're almost hard to watch: Cinderella Man, Body of Lies, Les Miserables, Proof of Life, Romper StomperPerformances he should have gotten the Oscar for: Gladiator (when he did), Insider, L.A. Confidential, A Beautiful Mind, Les Miserables (I know he wasn't nominated, which was not even remotely okay)
3:10 to Yuma - Not every actor is a natural on a horse. A Beautiful Mind second followed by Gladiator. He deserves at least Oscars for those. Master and Commander should have a sequel plus an Oscar. Russell is the best actor living today. Plus he is just a good guy,
We're having some work done on our home and during his lunch break, I was chatting with the carpenter. Somehow, as it does, the conversation turned to Gladiator. The carpenter, who's a bicyclist and Harley owner, in his 50's, confessed that Gladiator is his favorite film of all time, having seen it "at least 4 or 5 times now". I told him that I may have "seen it a few times more than that"... I was embarrassed to confess that I've watched it more times than I can count. It's truly an iconic film and Russell's performance as Maximus is also. Gladiator has entered that exalted position as one of the most popular films of all time. However, even though it is undeniably fantastic and compelling and of course I'll watch it again and again, I also think he was fantastic in The Insider, A Beautiful Mind, 3"10 to Yuma and Master and Commander, to name just a few, creating memorable characters in each.
Oh my Ben Wade! He was such a nasty man. 3:10 ToYuma...lives on..
A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man
"A Beautiful mind"№1.Oscar was stolen from Russell.Young Russell in the picture"Proof".
A Beautiful Mind is the best performance. Why? Well who has the courage or even the ability to play a schizophrenic? Answer: Russel Crowe
As much as I love Gladiator, my favorite film of his is master and commander. Its got the grandeur of a hollywood epic as well as close personal friendships and intimate stories.
I agree with "Teithio" I think.Crowe has made many remarkable movies, all very different but Gladiator appeals to the people because it is the role of a tragical hero. This works since the ancient times.
Well , i was working last year in Iceland on the movie - NOAH -- but since i have not see that ( next Year ) then i agree - Gladiator is the coolest movie with mr. Crowe
Having recently discovered Russell Crowe's films, I can't get enough of him. So far my favourite is 3:10 to Yuma, Mystery Alsaka and Les Mis! Also love his voice as a singer!...Where have I been all these years!Sharon Hibberd
To me the emotional content of the movie Gladiator had the deepest impact for me as a viewer.I have not seen all of Russell's movies, but out of the ones I have seen.I found The Insider & LA Confidential , the most engaging.
