I thought Russell and Hugh were wonderful in the film, both have great singing voices. I'd definitely recommend it to people.

Lynn Bates - I saw Le Mis when it first came out. WOW! I thought Jackman was fantastic and Hathaway was great but after seeing some of the disses Russ got I have to say boo to the nay sayers. Russ, I thought, did a great job. His songs weren't the same type and quality of Hugh Jackman's and I think it was because neither was Javert's quality the same as Val Jean. He did very well.

I enjoy musicals but I wasn't prepared for -no dialogue- it was really surprising for me. I am a fan of Russell's singing and own several of his albums so I was very impressed by his singing in this film. I was also impressed by Amanda Seyfried. The set and costumes were amazing, making the film feel very authentic. Of course Anne and Hugh were amazing but I feel the press/media pushed them so much that their talent overshadowed the rest of the cast. I cried like a baby at the end of the film, the way Anne and Hugh show emotions just wrenches your heart out. I found Helena and Sasha very amusing, their scenes had so much going on I was afraid to blink and miss something hilarious.

I've seen Les Mis 3 times and loved it more each time. Going to see it in IMAX in 2 days! As a long time fan of the stage musical I can say this film version exceeded my expectations.

Having been a fan of Russell's acting for many years, the thought of him singing in Les Mis filled me with dread. Took my Mum last Saturday and expected other stars to shine. Not so, Russell stole the whole film. My Mum, who was a neutral, said, that Russell Crowe was the best in the whole movie. I had a big smile on my face. I love Hugh Jackman, but Russell Crowe put him in the shade. Note to all stars...... Sing the notes correctly as per Russell. Xxxxx

I saw Les Mis 3 days ago in Sydney, Australia. Russell's Javert seems like really nice guy. Now I want to marry him. (well I'm married already though)

I have seen Les Mis 4 times now at the cinema and can't wait for it to come out on DVD. The film was very powerful and Crowe's Javert was haunting, I loved his singing and listen constantly in the car. Those who knock his performance are really misssing something, it has turned me on to his other music which is great too.We are all Gladiator fans in my famiy, 3 sons and husband. We must have seen it over 20 times.....Caroline cooper

I thought all of the performances were terrific, each for a very different reason. Hugh is trained as a stage singer, and I expected the best from him - got it! Anne still makes me cry every time I watch 'I Dreamed...'. Amazing; she really deserved her Oscar! Eddie's 'Empty Chairs' knocks me out; his performance was a complete surprise to me, and I think he was badly overlooked in the awards ceremonies. Sammie, in my humble opinion, had the best solo performance of any of them, going from quietly intimate to rip-your-hear-out belting, and what a a voice!
As for Russell, I thought his singing was perfect for Javert and exactly what Tom Hooper wanted for the part. As always, his phenomenal acting gift brought out nuances of Javert that a lesser actor could never even have found, much less shown. I really felt his agony when he realized he could not live with the idea that the 'criminal' he had been pursuing relentlessly for 20+ years might have been a better man than himself.
I know it's just a film, but I cried just as hard last night watching the DVD as I did in the theatre, and I imagine I'll continue to cry every time I watch it in the future (and keep hoping everyone won't die...). The extras on the blu-ray DVD are terrific, and I got the Target extra disc and have enjoyed watching that. Well worth the cost!

Saw it the first day it came out (and am waiting for the DVD to arrive!) I think Russell really "gets" Javert and what he's about and that makes him so good in the role. I know a lot of people bashed the singing but IMHO it fit with the overall characterization. A really wonderful film altogether.
